Abstract
Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor encephalitis is a common autoimmune disorder. We report a patient who suffered from anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis after vaccination for Hantavirus to prevent hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. Because the vaccine for Hantavirus is made of suckling mouse brain tissue, and there are concerns of autoimmune encephalitis due to the presence of myelin basic protein contaminants in the vaccines, we suggest this patient may be the first case of NMDA encephalitis after vaccination for Hantavirus.
